Once Scotland’s ancient capital, Perth is surrounded by glorious countryside and steeped in history, making The Royal George Hotel an excellent base from which to explore the delights of Perthshire, The Scottish Highlands including the Trossachs and indeed the rest of Scotland. Plenty of history can be found on Perth’s doorstep, including Blair Castle and Scone Palace. Within the town Perth Museum & Art Gallery is well worth a visit.
There is an abundance of local walking routes including Kinnoull Hill, which offers stunning views over The Carse of Gowrie with the River Tay meandering into the distance. Or a walk along the North Inch in Perth itself, the location of the Battle of The Clans in 1396, and once home to medieval witch hunts and Horse Racing. A visit to the Glenturret Distillery in Crieff, Scotland’s oldest distillery, offers you the chance to learn about the Whisky making process and sample the final product for yourself, with the option of the guided tour. The Caithness Glass Centre is a memorable day out where you can enjoy watching the glassmakers turning molten glass into world renouned paperweights, and where the visitor centre offers you time to relax and browse the Tourist Information Centre. Scone is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. Today it is the home of the Earls of Mansfield, and a major attraction to visitors from all over the world. Fifteen hundred years ago, it was the capital of the Pictish kingdom and the centre of the ancient Celtic church. In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of Kings. It has housed the Stone of Destiny and been immortalised in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Poised above the River Tay, the Palace overlooks the routes north to the Highlands and east through Strathmore to the coast. The Grampian mountains form a distant backdrop, and across the river stands the city of Perth. Two thousand years ago, the Romans camped here, at the very limit of their empire. They never defeated the warlike Picts, who later came to rule Scone, but the followers of St Columba had more success. By the early 7th century, a group of early Christians, the Culdees or servants of God, had established themselves here.

Caithness Glass is a world leader in the creation of high quality artglass. Since 1961 we have taken our inspiration from the colours of the Scottish landscape - warm peaty tones, heather purple, golden sunsets, the grey blue of the lochs. In 1968, we added glass engraving to our skills, and in 1969, we developed innovative techniques for producing abstract paperweights. Today, over 30 years later, our paperweight studios in Perth combine the finest design and traditional skills to create pieces which are entirely unique, and we are now justifiably regarded as one of the world's most respected producers of museum-quality paperweights.
The Scottish Liqueur Centre is a wholly owned family Company from the Island of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. This island, which with its neighbour Iona is so steeped in history, has played an important part in the development of our original product, Columba Cream. At the Scottish Liqueur Centre we make by hand our own-recipe Scottish liqueurs using the finest natural ingredients, from Highland Malt Whisky, honey, cream and real fruit to the soft Perthshire water in which we carefully blend our products. We are proud that all of the main ingredients of our liqueurs can be distinguished on the palate. They say the proof of the pudding is in the eating - we are confident that our products are second to none and we therefore offer free tastings to all who visit us.
Glenturret Distillery is the oldest single highland malt distillery in Scotland. It was established in 1775, but dates back to 1717 when there were numerous bothies in Glenturret and it is believed that there were as many as five on the distillery site -all had 'Illicit Stills' and drew their water from the Turret Burn. Glenturret Distillery was originally in the hands of smugglers who smuggled the whisky to England to avoid paying taxes, and the site had been selected not only for its convenient slope to the river but also because there were two high hills on either side which provided excellent look ou points for the smugglers. The unique atmosphere is like no other in the country. Its intimacy ensures that everyone is close to the action, and able to rub shoulders with the superstars of the jumping game. A day at Perth is as much a social occasion as anything else, and whether you want to arrive in your Sunday best or a pair of denims, drink champagne or beer, our friendly staff will do their best to give you the time of your life.
